Guest Book Welcome To My Homepage

Welcome to a great year of fun and learning!

The interesting thing about learning is that it is ongoing. You never stop learning, whether you want to or not. Just think about the times you have caught yourself singing a song that just would not go out of your head. You probably don't even know the moment you learned it. You just know that it rings in your head like a long playing CD.If you don't block or resist , learning will occur more easily than you could ever imagine!

Language Arts Fundamentals

In reading class, the week of September 29, we will be practicing reading strategies, as well as consonant and vowel sounds. For our comprehension practice, we will be reading and discussing "Edgar Allan". Also, we will practice writing frequently misspelled words, and reviewing sight words. We will continue compiling and illustrating "Green Books", also.

Check my site often for the latest updates in learning trends and brain research. The brain is such a fasinating entity all by itself. It loves to soak up knowledge. If it is not impeded by depriving it of the proper rest, and nutrition, you will find that it will surprise you as to how much information it can process and hold, even while you sleep!

One of the foremost authors on learning and being an effective individual is Stephen Covey. Covey wrote " The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". This is one of the books that we will use in Study Skills class this year. Stephen outlines the very positive actions and behaviors that one must adopt in order to be the successful, effective people we can be. It is a powerful book that promotes the best and most self-actualizing behaviors in students whether they are in high school or in college!

On this site, you will find helpful information about Biology, Study Skills and Language Arts.

A very much overlooked secret!

One of the most overlooked secrets to learning is that 90% of it is just being present mentally and physically. There is a lot to be said about coming to class and paying attention. Paying attention involves being connected with the information on a more visceral or deeper level of thinking. This involves asking yourself questions about what is being said as you learn and interact with the information as it comes into your brain! Then learning becomes alive. It becomes engraved or woven into other knowledge that is already in the computer bank of your mind.

Biology 2- Collab

In Biology class the week of September 22, 2008, we will be taking a close look at the microscope, and exploring Chapter one in the Biology book.  We will focus on an examination of the cell, the biosphere, and the three domains of life. The objective is to identify the major organizational levels of life.
The key terms you can look up are biosphere, ecosystem, organism, cell, DNA and gene. These are key words from Chapter one.
We are also focusing on the steps of the scientific method. This method can be useful in solving problems in science as well as in life. The process involves observation; asking aquestion; forming an hypothesis; setting up a controlled experiment; recording and analyzing results and drawing a conclusion. If you need help in understanding these steps or any other topic in Biology, you may make an appointment to meet during the "one lunch" period.
The science of Biology is so fascinating. You will have fun exploring it and learning all about life from the "global to the microscopic". This year, you will have a closeup look of some of the most fascinating living creatures, such as the iguana, the turtle, and maybe even a snake or two! Don't worry! You don't have to get that close if you don't want to! Anyway, we wll have fun and real excitement discovering the phenomenal science of Biology this year !
